A cookie is a text file that is stored on your computer, tablet, smartphone or any other device connected to the internet for a certain period when you visit a website or use an app. Each time you visit that website or use that app, the server reads the information in the cookie that was previously stored on your device.

In addition to cookies, other technologies with similar functions may be used on our websites.

In this policy, the term ‘cookies’ includes all technologies that allow the information on your device to be read and stored.

We use:

  • strictly necessary cookies (required – these cookies will be enabled and read unless you disable them in your browser settings)
  • non-strictly necessary cookies (optional – these cookies are not enabled unless you give your consent and are disabled again if you revoke your consent,  which you can read more about here)
    • functional cookies
    • analytical cookies
    • cookies for personalised content
    • social media cookies
    • cookies for targeted advertising

Strictly necessary cookies (required)

  • These cookies are needed to ensure the proper and secure functioning of our websites and/or are strictly necessary to provide the service you have expressly requested.
  • They cannot be rejected, but you can set your browser to block and/or delete them.

Non-strictly necessary cookies (optional)

  • These cookies will only be installed after you have given your consent.
  • You can choose whether to accept all, some or none of these cookies on our websites.
  • You can also change your cookie preferences in the future and revoke any consent you have previously given.
  • For more information, click here.

If you agree to the use of all or certain non-strictly necessary cookies:

  • all or just the relevant non-strictly necessary cookies can be installed and accessed every time you visit our websites  on the same device for a certain period, which will be specified in the cookie preferences menu;
  • your consent is limited in duration to 12 months, specific to the device, i.e. new cookies may be installed during that period, unless you have revoked your consent in the meantime;
  • strictly necessary cookies  will also be installed unless you disable them in your browser settings.

If you do not agree to the use of non-strictly necessary cookies:

  • you will still have access to our websites;
  • however, we cannot guarantee you the best user experience;
  • certain functions or parts of our websites may not work properly.
  • strictly necessary cookies will still be installed unless you disable them in your browser settings.

When you visit a website with non-strictly necessary cookies for the first time on a particular device, a cookie banner will appear allowing you to indicate that you:

either

agree to the use of all cookies on our websites

  • You can do this by clicking Allow All.
  • This means that you agree to the installation and access of non-strictly necessary cookies whenever you visit our websites with the (sub)domain ag.be on the same device.
  • Strictly necessary cookies  will also be installed and accessed unless you disable them in your browser settings.

or

agree to the use of certain categories of non-strictly necessary cookies

  • You can do this by:
  • indicating which categories of cookies you agree to;
  • then clicking Confirm my Preferences.
  • This means that you agree to the installation and access of relevant cookies whenever you visit our websites with the (sub)domain ag.be on the same device.
  • Non-strictly necessary cookies that you do not consent to will not be installed on your device.
  • Strictly necessary cookies  will also be installed and accessed unless you disable them in your browser settings.

or

do not agree to the use of non-strictly necessary cookies

  • You can do this by:
    • either closing the cookie banner by clicking on the cross at the top;
    • or clicking on Confirm my Preferences after rejecting non-strictly necessary cookies;
    • or clicking Reject All.
  • This means that non-strictly necessary cookies will not be installed.
  • However, strictly necessary cookies will still be installed and accessed unless you disable them in your browser settings.
  • Although you have agreed to the use of all or some non-strictly necessary cookies, the cookies you consented to will no longer be stored and used if they have been deactivated in your browser settings.
  • If a website only uses strictly necessary cookies, a banner will appear on your screen informing you that the website uses strictly necessary cookies. In that case, you can still disable the strictly necessary cookies in your browser settings.

If you have already specified your cookie preferences on one of our websites and you revisit one of our websites on the same device (see here for more information):

  1.  no cookie banner will appear unless:
    • your consent is no longer valid as it has expired (see below); or
    • you did not agree to the use of non-strictly necessary cookies  during your first visit because you clicked on the cross at the top of the cookie banner to close it. You can read what preferences you can make in the new cookie banner here.
  2. however, you will retain full control over your cookie preferences:
    • You can easily revoke any consent you previously gave for non-strictly necessary cookies and change your cookie preferences in the cookie preferences menu on each website.
    • You can do this by:
      • first clicking on Cookies at the bottom of the website; and
      • then clicking Manage my Cookie Preferences.

Your consent and cookie preferences are valid for 12 months on each device. After this period, you will then see the cookie banner again when you next visit one of our websites asking for your consent to non-strictly necessary cookies on that specific device.

This will also happen if you did not agree to the use of non-strictly necessary cookies  when you previously visited one of our websites  because you clicked on the cross at the top of the cookie banner to close it.

In the new banner, you can indicate that you:

either

agree to the use of all cookies on our websites

  • You can do this by clicking Allow All.
  • This means that you agree to the installation and access of non-strictly necessary cookies whenever you visit our websites with the (sub)domain ag.be on the same device.
  • Strictly necessary cookies will also be installed and accessed unless you disable them in your browser settings.

or agree to the use of certain categories of non-strictly necessary cookies

  • You can do this by:
    • indicate which categories of cookies you agree to
    • then clicking Confirm my Preferences.
  • This means that you agree to the installation and access of these cookies whenever you visit our websites with the (sub)domain ag.be on the same device.
  • Non-strictly necessary cookies that you do not consent to will not be installed on your device.
  • Strictly necessary cookies will also be installed and accessed unless you disable them in your browser settings.

or do not agree to the use of non-strictly necessary cookies

  • You can do this by:
    • either closing the cookie banner by clicking on the cross at the top;
    • or clicking on Confirm my Preferences after rejecting non-strictly necessary cookies;

Most web browsers are configured by default to automatically accept cookies. However, you can alter your browser settings at any time by applying preferences that allow or reject all or some cookies, remove cookies already stored, or tell you whether a cookie has been installed.

For more information, see your browser documentation.

If your browser settings are set to block all cookies, a cookie banner will be displayed on the website you visit, but even if you accept non-strictly necessary cookies, those cookies will no longer be stored and used if they have been deactivated in your browser settings.

You may revoke your consent to all or some non-strictly necessary cookies at any time as follows:

On any webpage:

  • First, click Cookies at the bottom of the page.
  • Then click Manage my Cookie Preferences.
  • Click either Confirm my Preferences without selecting the non-strictly necessary cookies you want to reject, or Reject All to reject all non-strictly necessary cookies.

In your browser settings

Please see your browser documentation.

Revoking your consent to all or some non-strictly necessary cookies means that no new non-strictly necessary cookies in the relevant categories will be installed.

Your choice to revoke your prior consent to the use of all or some non-strictly necessary cookies on our websites will be valid for 12 months per device. For more information about what happens after that period expires, please see here.

If you revoke your prior consent to all or some non-strictly necessary cookies, the cookies already stored on your device with your prior consent will remain on your device for the remainder of the period specified for those cookies. You can find the duration of that period in the cookie preferences menu.

However, you can delete the cookies already stored on your device before they are due to expire by modifying your browser settings. Please see your browser documentation.

You can delete the cookies already stored on your device before they are due to expire by modifying your browser settings. For more information, see your browser documentation.

For technical reasons, we are unable to delete cookies already stored on your device for you. But you can do this yourself in your browser settings.

If cookies collect your personal data, then we are also responsible, TOGETHER with you, for ensuring your privacy.

For more information about your rights regarding your personal data and how to exercise them, please see our Privacy Policy

If cookies on our websites collect personal data, we will process your personal data in a lawful manner and in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

If cookies on our websites collect personal data:

we are generally the controller.

This means that we are the point of contact for you and the competent authorities for any queries regarding our use of your personal data.

unless it concerns social media cookies or cookies for targeted advertising.

These cookies are -only if your prior consent is given- used by a third party that does not act on our instructions and uses the data collected for its own purposes.

Social media cookies can collect (personal) data and forward it to the social media platform for use by that platform (e.g. direct marketing, analytical studies or market research by the platform itself). In that case, the platform itself is the controller for the processing of your personal data for its own purpose. This means that the platform in question is the point of contact for you and the competent authorities for any queries regarding the processing of your personal data by that platform.

Cookies for targeted advertising may collect (personal) data and forward it to the appropriate advertising party for its own use by that advertising party (e.g. direct marketing, analytical studies or market research by that advertising party itself). In that case, the advertising party itself is the controller responsible for the processing of your personal data for its own purpose. This means that the advertising party in question is the point of contact for you and the competent authorities for any queries regarding the processing of your personal data by that platform.

Social media cookies and cookies for targeted advertising are fully controlled by the third parties that install them. We do not exercise any control over how those third parties manage them or use the (personal) data collected through them. Therefore, how those third parties use your personal data does not fall under our responsibility.

  • We recommend that you read the privacy policy and cookie policy of these third parties for more information about how they use your personal data and the cookies.
  • You can accept or reject the use of these cookies at any time in the cookie preferences menu on any page of the website. For more information, click here. You can also easily revoke any consent that you previously granted at any time (see here).

In our Privacy Policy, we explain that we only process personal data that is strictly necessary for a specific purpose and only to the extent that there is a legal basis. We also explain that we sometimes process your personal data for profiling and making certain profile-based decisions to achieve that purpose.

If there are cookies on our websites that collect personal data (e.g. IP address, what you click on and what pages you visit), we will process that personal data (and, as the case may be, use it for profiling if necessary) only:

  1. to the extent that is strictly necessary for the specific purpose mentioned in the cookie preferences menu; and
  2. if there is a lawful basis.

Specifically, this means:

If strictly necessary cookies collect personal data on our websites:

Purpose (summarised; for more information, see here) and legal basis:

  • the proper and secure functioning of websites and → our legitimate interest. You may exercise your right to object and request information about the fair balance between your privacy and our legitimate interest that we pursue (see our Privacy Policy for more information).
  • If strictly necessary to provide a service explicitly requested by the website visitor or app user → processing is necessary to perform the contract or to take pre-contractual measures at your request.

If functional cookies that you have consented to (see here) collect personal data on our websites:

  • Purpose (summarised): optimising your experience (for more information, see here).
  • Legal basis: your prior consent, which you can easily revoke at any time (for more information, see here).

If analytical cookies that you have consented to (see here) collect personal data on our websites:

  • Purpose (summarised): statistical purposes for improving the content of our web pages (for more information, see here).
  • Legal basis: your prior consent, which you can easily revoke at any time (for more information, see here).

If cookies for personalised content that you have consented to (see here) collect personal data on our websites:

  • Purpose (summarised): to personalise the information we provide you about our own products and services (for more information, see here).
  • Legal basis: your prior consent, which you can easily revoke at any time (for more information, see here). You also have the right to object to the processing of your personal data for marketing, including the profiling related to it (for more information, see our Privacy Policy).
  • We use your (personal) data for profiling to achieve this purpose. Using the (personal) data we obtain through these cookies (e.g. pages visited and articles read on our websites), we create a profile of you that we use to provide you with personalised direct marketing about our own products and services, unless you object to the use of your personal data for direct marketing. We cannot identify you directly through these cookies, as the data is not tied to your name. However, we can do so if you have provided us with information that can identify you directly (e.g. when you register on our website). Under no circumstances is the information collected used to show you advertisements for products and services marketed by third parties or passed on to third parties for their own (marketing) purposes. If you do not accept these cookies, you will see less direct marketing of our own products and services or these will not be personalised.

If social media cookies that you have consented to (see here) collect personal data on our websites:

  • Purpose (summarized): to enable you to share information on our websites  and directly on social media and to view film clips directly from our websites  (for more information, see here).
  • Legal basis: your prior consent, which you can easily revoke at any time (for more information, see here).
  • Note: we do not use your (personal) data for profiling to achieve this purpose, however the third party that installs the cookies may use the personal data obtained for its own purposes (for more information, see here), specifically by tracking what you visit and what you click over time across numerous websites and creating profiles of you based on this data, e.g. to make marketing more accurate and targeted during future browsing sessions. For more information about how your (personal) data may be used by third parties, please see the privacy policy and cookie policy of the relevant third party.

If cookies for targeted advertising that you have consented to (see here) collect personal data on our websites:

  • Purpose (summarised): to display personalised advertisements on third-party websites after visiting our website (for more information, see here).
  • Legal basis: your prior consent, which you can easily revoke at any time (for more information, see here).
  • Note: we do not use your (personal) data for profiling to achieve this purpose, however the third party that installs the cookies may use the (personal) data obtained for its own purposes (for more information, see here), specifically by tracking what you visit and what you click over time across numerous websites and creating profiles of you based on this data, e.g. to make marketing more accurate and targeted during future browsing sessions. For more information about how your (personal) data may be used by third parties, please see the privacy policy and cookie policy of the relevant third party.

Not everyone within AG has access to your personal data. Only people who handle your account may access and process your personal data. These people have a strict duty of confidentiality and are very aware of this. Furthermore, our specialist teams make it technically impossible for unauthorised persons to access your personal data.

In our Privacy Policy, we explain that we do not routinely transfer your personal data with third parties.

In the context of cookies, this means that we do not transfer (personal) data collected through cookies to any other party, unless:

  1. we rely on the services of a third party acting only on our instructions to achieve the purpose of the cookie. If we do transfer personal data to that third party, that third party is considered a processor. Any transfer of personal data obtained through cookies is based on the same legal basis as for installing and accessing the cookies.
  2. cookies are installed by third parties that use (personal) data obtained through those cookies for their own purposes. This is the case with the social media cookies and cookies for target advertising where a third party (i.e. the social media platform or the advertising party) uses (personal) data obtained through the cookies for its own purposes (e.g. direct marketing, including the associated profiling). If that third party obtains personal data through the cookie, that third party is considered a controller. As set out, we do not exercise any control over how that third party manages these cookies and uses the (personal) data collected through the cookies. Therefore, how those third parties use your (personal) data does not fall under our responsibility. → We recommend that you read the privacy policy and cookie policy of these third parties for more information about how they use your personal data and the cookies. Any such transfer of personal data will be based on your prior consent to social media cookies and your prior consent to cookies for targeted advertising. You can revoke this consent at any time (see here).

In our Privacy Policy, we explain that we do not store personal data for any longer than is necessary to achieve its specific purpose.

We do not store (personal) data obtained through cookies, but we do keep the data we obtain through Adobe Analytics for 25 months immediately after shortening your IP address. We cannot identify you directly through the data, as it is not tied to your name.

Social media cookies and cookies for targeted advertising are fully controlled by the third parties that install them. We do not exercise any control over how the third party manages them or uses the (personal) data collected through them.

You will be informed about any changes to this Cookie Policy by an information banner that appears when you visit one of our websites.

If there is a major change (e.g. a change to the categories of cookies used), you will see the cookie banner again, allowing you to indicate your cookie preferences.

Do you have any questions about your privacy or how we use cookies?

Please get in touch by email or post. Our 'Data Protection Officer' or 'DPO', that is our specialist on the subject, will get back to you within one month.
